Signing in Los Angeles County
Deeds and grant deeds for property in the county are recorded by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, headquartered in Norwalk. A notary does not record anything for you. They notarize the signature, then you or your escrow or title company submit the document for recording.
Hospital and care-facility signings are common here: powers of attorney and advance directives at places like Cedars-Sinai or Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Tell us the building and the unit so the notary can plan parking and visitor check-in.
Escrow and refinance packages are a big share of LA requests. Loan signings take 45 to 90 minutes, so ask for a notary who does loan packages specifically.
Timing
Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings fill first. If it is a closing with a funding deadline, request at least a day ahead and say so in the notes.
What to bring
- A current, government-issued photo ID for every person signing (driver's license, state ID or passport). No ID is the most common reason a signing gets cancelled.
- The complete, unsigned document. Don't sign ahead of time; you sign in front of the notary.
- Any blanks filled in except the signature. A notary can't notarize a document with empty fields.
What it costs
California caps the notary's fee for an acknowledgment at $15 per signature, and $15 for an oath or affirmation with a jurat (California Government Code §8211, text, checked 2026-09-29). Section 8211 doesn't set travel fees, so a mobile notary's travel charge is separate. Agree on it before the appointment.
